Burb’s 1 Year Anniversary - Port Moody

Wow - we can’t believe it’s July already. It’s been a year since we opened our first store location in Port Moody and we're stoked to see how this store has grown and evolved since we first opened our doors. We have some pretty amazing staff who help run this location and we'd like to take a moment to introduce our team as they share their favourite cannabis strains, hilarious canna stories, and what they like best about Burb.

Meet The Port Moody Team

Matt Roan - Manager (@kuyaganja)

How long have you been working at Burb?
It's been just over a year since I was first brought onto the team here at burb.

What is your favourite part?
I would have to say one of the highlights for me is the people who come in to shop with us. It is such a contrast to working in any other industry. These customers are just as interested in the product as I am, and it leads to some amazing conversations and connections that I've never experienced anywhere else.

What is your favourite strain(s)?
There are so many to choose from... Point Break, Macslurry, Peanut Butter Mac, Blue Dream. I can keep going haha. I'm not picky!

Do you have any funny weed stories?
Well, long story short: One time at a Kid Cudi concert I greened out and sat against a garbage can in a park eating a Hot Dog Poutine because I couldn't walk or talk. Yes, that is fries, cheese, and sliced hot dogs. Against a trash can. Picture that. I followed that up with a slice of pizza, smoked another doobie, and made it back to the stage in time for "Mr. Rager." Good times.

How has weed positively affected you?
It's helped in so many ways. I started smoking when I was about 20. At first it was about smoking to listen to music, watch movies, see a concert, etc. but as I started to grow more passionate about it, I saw it as so much more than what I was using it for.

In the almost 10 years that I have been a consumer, I have seen it help me tremendously with my career, my fitness, my mental health, my artistic side, and so much more. Thank you ganja!!

Ivanna Navarro - Product Lead (@goodmorningugly)

How long have you been working at Burb?
I have been working at Burb since before we had any weed in the store! (approx. 2 years).

What is your favourite part?
My favourite part is being a part of a developing industry that I love and respect.

What is your favourite strain(s)?
Strawberry x Romulan will forever be the euphoric strain of my heart with Organnicraft's Cherry Punch coming in second!

Do you have any funny weed stories?
A regular pulling down her shirt just to show me her heart-shaped nipples has gotta be one of the weirdest but funniest experiences I've had so far.

How has weed positively affected you?
Cannabis has brought me closer to a community of amazing, creative, driven human beings. I am lucky enough to work and learn from those before me. It has opened wonderful doors of development and personal growth - one of the many doors cannabis has opened for me was the opportunity to write for Rolling Stone magazine.

Damon Deppiesse - Team Lead (@deppiesse.designs)

How long have you been working at Burb?
Almost a full year!

What is your favourite strain(s)?
My favourite strain would have to be Gelato! Sunset Sherbert by Broken Coast comes to a close second.

Do you have any funny weed stories?
I guess a funny personal story would be one time a friend of mine bet that he could smoke a whole joint through his nose in exchange for a quarter oz. He could only get halfway through but he definitely earned the quarter oz!

How has weed positively affected you?
Weed has positively affected me by allowing me to work and connect with so many amazing people in the cannabis industry who share similar passions as I do!

Libby Newman - Burbtender (@libbynewmann)

How long have you been working at Burb?
I've been working at Burb for a year! My first day was the day before the grand opening of the Suter Brook location.

What is your favourite part?
Without a doubt my favourite part about working at Burb is the amazing set of staff that we have. Going to work never feels like a chore and feels more like going to hang out with the homies. We've built such a close bond. I consider my co-workers very close friends, and I look forward to seeing them everyday.

What is your favourite strain(s)?
My favourite strains definitely have to be Tangerine Dream by San Rafael, and Shishkaberry.

Do you have any funny weed stories?
Years ago I was downtown with some friends, we had just smoked a joint and were waiting in line at chipotle high as hell. My friend was staring at this guy that was behind us. When I asked her what she was looking at she was almost 100% sure she was staring at Alex Wolff (he played Peter in the movie Hereditary). We googled it just to be sure, and it was him. We asked him for a picture and he was super cool about it. Ended up chatting with him for 20 minutes, probably knew we were high but was a super chill guy.

How has weed positively affected you?
I’ve been using cannabis for about five years now, but have only become a consistent user since working at Burb. Before working at Burb I was working a corporate sales job that caused me to go into a depressive episode and become riddled with anxiety. If it wasn't for the pandemic hitting and me losing my job, I would have never started working in the cannabis industry and finding out more about myself and what I want for my future.

Nicholas Booth - Burbtender (@_nickbooth)

How long have you been working at Burb?
7 months.

What is your favourite part?
Favourite part of working at Burb is working alongside so many talented and passionate individuals and the impact we are able to have on our community!

What is your favourite strain(s)?
Alien Sinmint Cookies, Mac 1

Do you have any funny weed stories?
Got too high before Avengers on opening night, ended up greening out, falling asleep and missed the whole film

How has weed positively affected you?
It's affected me positively in the sense that I've been able to connect with so many amazing people because of cannabis and that it's helped with so many aspects of my personal life!

Austin Ely - Burbtender (@austin_ely)

How long have you been working at Burb?
I have been at Burb for just over 3 months.

What is your favourite part?
My favourite part is the people I get to work with and all the different kinds of cannabis I get to be around.

What is your favourite strain(s)?
My favourite strains at the moment are Sophies Breath, Blue Dream, and Biscotti.

Do you have any funny weed stories?
Taking 250mg of THC for my first time having an edible. It felt like I was falling through space or something and time wasn't really a thing. I kept feeling like I was teleporting around my house and then puking in the sink.

How has weed positively affected you?
It has changed a lot of things in my life in such a positive way, from using it medically to treat depression (shoutout to Blue Dream). Also, socially I have been able to find more happiness and peace in my life and a passion that's leading me in an exciting direction.
